The site is an all-grass airfield only a few feet above sea level on the Magilligan peninsula, a flat and almost treeless alluvial plain beneath cliffs that rise to 1,260 feet above sea level only 1.8 nautical miles from the runway. It is landable from any direction, with good clear approaches to both the main longitudinal runs and crosswind diagonals. At its widest points the field measures 546 m x 310 m, however there is an unusable portion at the beach end The site is primarily a gliding site but occasional visits by light aircraft are permitted at their owner's risk, subject to PPR (prior permission required by telephone please). Visitors must satisfy themselves that the condition of the surface and runway lengths available are suitable for their intentions before arranging to arrive. Be advised that there is high ground to 1263 ft amsl approx 1.8 nm E & SE of the site.
The operational strip for the day is selected by the duty instructor.
NOTE 1: Pilots proposing to land at the Club's airfield at Bellarena should note that, due to insurance difficulties, the Club regrets that it is not possible to supply fuel to visiting aircraft. NOTE 2: This airfield is is not notified as a point of entry/exit under the terms of the Prevention of Terrorism Act however permission may be obtained by contacting The Police Service for Northern Ireland at Tel: 028 90 650222 Extn 22430.
Caution intense gliging activity, keep a good look out and always give way to gliders.
