The airfield has two grass runways, 08-26 (320m) and 01-19 (360m). The Airfield elevation is 200ft amsl and circuit height is 500ft Qfe. All circuits are north and west of the field - 08 (LH), 26 (RH), 01 (LH) and 19 (RH).
There are telephone lines and trees on the field boundary, particularly for runways 01-19, and there are no-fly areas close to the field where direct overflying of farms and properties should be avoided on circuit. Be aware that runway 08 has an increasing down-slope in the latter 1/3 of the runway, and an early touchdown is essential. be prepared to go around.
See the Elevation image on the "desktop" airfield cards site below. The field is often used for sheep grazing and a low pass may be required prior to committing to a landing to check that the runways are clear of sheep, they are used to aircraft and will generally move clear of the runways if an aircraft is around. Further details on up-to-date conditions will be provided at the time of the PPR request.
There is no ground radio station at the airfield. For radio equipped aircraft, traffic calls/listening watch may be advisable on the general microlight frequency 129.830. Keep a good look out at all times for activity in the vicinity of the field. Foot launched powered hang gliders, paramotors and SSDR aircraft often operate from the airfield without airband frequency radios.
See website for circuits and areas to avoid.
Hi Vince,
All details correct as of early July 2020 but Just a comment that the runways are very bumpy at present and the owner is looking at options including changing runway direction and position for the N-S runway. I’ll update you if/when changes are made. Feel free to add the website http://www.snowdonialightflyers.club in the comments – there is a contact form on the website as well for ppr and any updates to field layout etc will also be posted there.
All the best,
Steve
