Operated by Bickerton's Aerodromes Ltd., Denham Aerodrome, Denham, Bucks, UB9 5DE. Aerodrome situated within the London CTR (Class 'D' Controlled Airspace), see chart. Telephone for PPR before departure. Non-radio aircraft not accepted.
Arrivals, Departures and Circuits
There is no overhead join. Max alt 1000 ft QNH (750 ft QFE) See below for briefing, joining videos and photos. Use transponder On with altitude information.
Circuit altitude 1000 ft QNH (750 ft QFE).
Rwy 24 RH, Rwy 06 LH, Rwy 12/30 variable.
To join the circuit and land:
establish radio contact with Denham radio at 10 nm or 5 mins away
listen out. If circuit is busy, delay joining the circuit
descend to circuit altitude and reduce speed for circuit (if necessary) before VRP
Arrival Rwy 24: report at Maple Cross VRP, fly the base leg over the lakes unless safe separation requires otherwise
Arrival Rwy 06: report at St Giles VRP, fly the base leg to the East of the A413 unless safe separation requires otherwise
at the VRP look out for acft downwind and give way - either reduce speed, or fly a larger circuit and maintain circuit alt until it is safe to fit in.
Do not orbit in the circuit
keep the circuit small unless safe separation requires otherwise.
To take-off and depart:
Departure Rwy 24: after take-off maintain runway heading until past houses on the right, then turn right before the A413 (where safely possible)
Departure Rwy 06: after take-off maintain runway heading until past caravan site on the left, then turn left over the lakes (where safely possible)
do not climb above circuit alt 1000 ft QNH (750 ft QFE)
extend crosswind leg out of the circuit to VRP before turning on track.
Power cables 120' aal, 369' amsl, 270°/06 nm, running NS. A public road crosses the final approach to Rwy 24, 100m from displaced threshold.
In the Local Flying Area (the part of the ATZ in London CTR) flights without compliance with IFR requirements may take place subject to the following conditions:
Aircraft to remain below cloud and in sight of surface.
Maximum altitude 1000ft QNH, with a minimum flight visibility of 3 km.
The area to the South of the A40 is to be avoided at all times.
Joining from the north 24
Joining from the north
If you have not visited Denham before you might find it helpful to come via Bovingdon VOR and then set heading for the relevant VRP, either VRP Maple Cross to join for runway 24 or VRP St Giles to join for runway 06. Keep a good lookout - overhead the VOR can get busy.
Joining from the north 06
The VRP is the crossroads on the A413 in the valley between the two halves of the town of Chalfont St Giles. The A413 is visible in the foreground snaking towards St Giles in the mid-ground. Also visible beyond St Giles is Chalfont St Peter (east of A413). The co-ordinates of VRP St Giles are 513802N 0003401W. The fix from Bovingdon is 189°/6nm.
Keep a good lookout for other aircraft joining, and be prepared to fit in with aircraft in the circuit. Remember joining aircraft must give way to aircraft in the circuit.
Take a look at the Local Flying Area chart.
